How big do you think a band can be at this point in music history? Dude, it's not really up to me to decide that.
That's not really our intention. I don't want to be a band that's like, "Let's shoot for the radio" — that's not the end-all goal for me. What I am interested in doing is growing up and trying different things in our music. Just because our music right now sounds like this, doesn't mean that our record after is going to sound like that. That's something that's always been really important to my band, is that we push the envelope for ourselves. If it gets on the radio, that's fing awesome; that's just an extra thing.
I just want to make sure that our fans are happy with it, and we get to continue to tour and play shows. That's the biggest thing for me. You must meet a lot of young fans. I often wonder what makes a teenager or somebody younger want to pick up a guitar these days. I'm not saying there has to be a career path there, even though those are getting rarer and rarer, but I wonder what the dream is, what the fantasy is.
What rock stars are there? Yeah, yeah. We just did this Teen Choice Awards performance. It was funny, because it was lot of pop acts, and there was a lot of people there for the pop acts. And we walk on stage and we have guitars and we have drums, and it was almost like I saw kids in the crowd who had never seen that before. I saw their lives change, like, Holy s, what is this? There's nothing like going to a Warped Tour and seeing bands go up there and play a song.
I just don't think you get that from pop music. And there is a resurgence of young people that want to hear music like that, and they relate to it. There'll always be something like that. Kellin is really sweet, and just pretty gosh darn cute : He has a crazy high voice, that some people like and some people dont, but it makes him original.
