Gunpowder Plot Discovered At about midnight on the night of November , Sir Thomas Knyvet, a justice of the peace, found Guy Fawkes lurking in a cellar under the Parliament building and ordered the premises searched.
First, the amount of material is determined to calculate the energy of the explosion. In the Gunpowder Plot, an estimated kilograms of gunpowder had been amassed. Next, they worked out how the blast wave from such an explosion would attenuate as it sped away from the detonation site at supersonic speeds. Comparing the pressure of the blast wave at different radii with damage data tables enabled them to predict the damage that would have been caused.
